Found out today i have gestational diabetes, any suggestions and advice?

i just was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, got a phone call from my doctors office today. i am 27 weeks pregnant, but not overweight and exercise. this is my first pregnancy. what should i expect? did anyone have this and was your baby healthy? large? and when they get older were they obese? i heard this is something that could happen..... any advice, suggestions, or experiences would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

My sister also had gestational diabetes and she is not fat, in fact she went to the gym everyday. Her baby, my niece was a nice healthy baby because she followed a diet that was given to her by a nutritionist. Ask your Dr to refer you to a nutritionist and follow the diet that you are given
If you do not follow the diet, yes there could be adverse effects on the baby but, since you know that you have gestational diabetes you can now take matters in your own hands to prevent that happening.
Good Luck!
Heres wishing you a healthy, happy baby!

Several points:
1. A mother with Gestational diabetes statistically has just as healthy a baby as a mother without, provided it is monitored and successfully controlled.

2. Check your blood sugar and follow the diet given by your doctor religiously. Continue to exercise.

3. Count yourself lucky. Your diabetes will go away after the birth.

4. Everything will be just fine. Just a little more work that you thought.

Good luck.

its very common......... and my cousin went thru the same this her baby is PERFECT!!!!!............... eat healthy:) ........................as long at u feed ur child healthy food and no hamburgers/soda when he/she is older everythin will b cool:)
