Please if anyone knows answers or has suggestions and opinions about this let me know. Everyone that was diagnosed with GD please reply i would like to know what other women are doing to control GD if using insulon or not, THanks....so muchh

No, not taking it will harm the baby.

No, insulin is natural in the body and will not harm the baby. Most gestational diabetics try to control their sugars with diet prior to starting insulin but many are non-compliant and require insulin to keep their sugar in check. It may not be the most pleasant thing, checking sugars and giving insulin shots but the side effects to the mother and the baby are much worse.

THIS would be best discussed with your doctor, however I can offer you some insight to the whole thing. When a woman has gestational diabetes, her pancreas simply cannot keep up with the demands of making insulin for both her AND her growing baby, so extra insulin must be injected as an added "boost." You, just like "full-time" diabetics, must check your blood glucose levels, before and after meals (set up a regular dosing/checking schedule..thats what I had to do). The insulin WON'T harm your baby, as long as its properly measured and injected at appropriate times and as long as you're eating a diet that "matches" your doses (to keep things level, as if didn't have G.D.) If you DON'T take your insulin, your blood sugar (as well as the baby's) will rise too high, and this can cause major damage to your body, and your baby's development could be tragically affected.
When I was pregnant with my son (now 3) I used a well-balanced diet, a regular exercise program (walking/swimming) and careful monitoring of my blood sugar/regular injections (they were small, but I still needed them) to keep everything working smoothly. It DID get awefully annoying, because I'd sit there and watch other mothers...pigging out on WHATEVER they wanted..and I was jealous of this "not a care in the world" attitude that they had..but I couldn't. As soon as Merric was born, my body returned to normal and I no longer needed the insulin. When I became pregnant again 4 months ago, I went in again to be tested for G.D...and DIDN'T have it this time! I guess its because I'd lost weight between pregnancies and kept up with my healthy diet and exercise program. Its really a hit-or-miss kinda thing. Don't worry yourself sick, mama. Your little tater-tot will be just fine as long as you watch what you eat, take your insulin when needed. It'll be all over before you know it, you can do it! ::hugs::

My daughter had it twice. She used insulin.
Both children are just fine.
Just follows your doctor's instructions.

Well, nothing in medicine is 100%, but this is pretty darn close. Insulin will not harm the baby. You make insulin (apparently not enough), as does baby. The analogs of human insulin that are used have been shown to be very safe in pregnancy.

Not taking the insulin would result in high sugars and a large baby which can result in some bad things at delivery. Even with well controlled diabetes, some newborns of Gestational diabetics will have trouble maintaining their sugars after birth for a few hours or days.

i had that when i was pregnant. if you don't take it you could go into a coma that wouldn't be good for either one of you. so you really don't have an option. you usually get the full blown diabetes 10 years down the road.
