How to pass the gestational diabetes test?

I am 15 weeks pregnant and I have to take the test in about a month. For the past 3 years I have been extremely cautious about staying away from sugars of all kinds (even fruit.) I don't feel good when I eat sugar, and it gives me a rash.

The problem is, they are going to make me drink this sugary mixture (YUCK). Since I never eat sugar, I don't know how my body will handle it, and I don't want to be labeled as "high risk" when I know I am eating right for my baby.

Anyone hear of any ways to "pass" the diabetes test. I heard that almonds help your body digest sugar. Any other ideas? Should I start eating sugar now, so that my body can handle the sugar test?

For all those wondering why I would want to pass the test. The test is to tell me if my baby will be harmed b/c of the effect sugar has on my body. Well, if I NEVER eat sugar - then the test is invalid to me... the only thing it will do is tell my dr. to put me in a category labeled "high risk" which will in turn make me more likely to have a cesection. Drs like to give c-sections.

The Glucose Tolerance Test is the name of the test where you drink the sugar drink and they draw your blood over a three hour period.
It measures how your body responds to glucose and whether you have sufficient insulin production.
There is no way to prepare or "pass" the test.
Since you are pregnant, you're not going to be put on medication---they will just watch you.
You are watching your diet, but often it is just the stress that the baby puts on your endocrine system that causes the gestational diabetes. It goes away as soon as the baby is born.

Just do what your doctor tells you to do........

You pass the test if you don't have diabetes. You should hope that you don't, but if you do it is important for it to be detected and treated both for u and your unborn child.

Yeah the stuff is nasty, but what is more important to you? I threw it all up and had to drink it over but I did it.

You will pass the test if you don't have diabetes. Starting to eat sugar now is not going to help. However staying away from all sugars is not healthy either. Sugar is consumed every time you eat potatoes, corn and peas among any types of breads or crackaers. You should eat a diet that consists of all food groups including fruit. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant. I lived by the diet and my baby was just fine. Staying on that diet has helped me to loose a lot of weight. I'm pretty sure that since you haven't eaten much sugar that you won't have diabetes anyway. So relax, worrying is not good for the baby.

It's not a drug test or something, you want to know if you have diabetes. Why would you want to pass it so badly? It is high risk for your baby which is most important.

Blood sugar changes during the day depending on when you eat etc. The fact that you avoid sugar is irrelevant tot he test. If you are not diabetic, you will pass the test. If you are diabetic, you won't. diabetics have to watch everything hey eat, not just sugar or sweet things.

eating sugar never did cause diabetes!! it just causes fat people!

It isn't whether you "pass" this test or not, it is whether you are doing all you can to have a healthy baby!!

gestational diabetes can cause great harm to the baby if left untreated!!

If you don't "pass" the GTT, the doctor will determine if you can get by with just dietary changes and more exercise or if you need some insulin injections.

Please don't be afraid of this!!! All of us only want to have healthy babies. One of the best ways to do that is to do all of the tests the doctors want us to do and then to abide with their decisions!!

And to up your exercise levels!!! Start now walking!! at least 30 minutes every day as fast as you can without actually jogging. It will help you to deliver easier!!!

I do sympathize with you about drinking the yukky syrup!! But you can get it down and keep it down.

My favorite snack: thin sliced tart apples with flavored cream cheese for dip!! Not sweet, but really good!

Sugar is in everything you eat. You are thinking of sugar as something sweet, but it's actually glucose that your body turns it into. This is found in fruits, veggies, actually almost all food, this is why we eat, to get glucose for our body cells to function. So saying you don't eat sugar isn't entirely true.

You need to do the best for you and your baby.If the test shows you are hi-risk then you'll deal with it, like the rest of us did.Don't try and hide a medical condition from your doctors. You and your baby could end up paying with your lives.

If a c-section is needed, it will help you safely deliver your baby.

Good luck and congratulations
