Do i have gestational diabetes n can i control just by diet? |
i am 27wks preg I was following the diet that my doctor gave me and on my last visit, he said that I needed insulin. I told him no that I would take care of it. If your Dr says you do then you do! A low GI diet is usually ideal for ppl w/ diabetes and GD because it encourages steady blood sugar levels, but check with your doctor for specific recommendations. Sugar, white flour, and other simple carbs should be kept to a minimum; and be sure you have adequate complex carbs and protein. Proper diet is frequently all that is needed to keep GD in check and be able to carry to full term and deliver naturally. Gestational diabetes is very common. If your doctor says you are, then the chance is you do. Yes it is controlled by diet, but you must still monitor your sugar on a regular basis. Normally after you have given birth, your body will go back to normal. I'm also pg and have GD. I tried to control it with diet but was unsuccessful. I have been on insulin for about 6 weeks now. My dietitian said I basically need to watch total carb intake. I can have 30 for breakfast, 45 for lunch and 60 for dinner, as well as 2 snacks in between meals at 20 carbs each. You really need to read/understand the nutrition labels, and control portion size. In case you don't know; one effect of having GD is a very large baby, which could cause complications during delivery. yes you do. He will try to control it with diet but if that fails he will put you on insulin. Please stick to the diet; it is best for you and the baby. After the baby is born your blood levels will likely go back to normal If your Dr says you have it than you do. Please try taking care of yourself and your baby by being on a low carb diet, and walking for at least 20 minutes a day. Have 15 grams of carbs for breakfast, 15 for morning snack, 30 for lunch, 15 for afternoon snack and 45 for dinner. Check food labels. I had GD with my three pregnancies. My oldest and youngest, I was on this diet, and I never had to go on insulin. With my middle child, I did. She's a little girl. Eight years old and now weighs 132 lbs. She weighed 11 lbs when she was born. The dr. says it had nothing to do with the insulin. I think it does because my other children at a normal wieght. I feel very bad for her because she is huge. Maybe the insulin wasn't the cause of her weight, but I think it is. I hope this helps. According to what you have stated as the normal levels, your glucose seems to be falling within the normal range. As long as you are within range, I would not worry about it. i was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my pregnancy, i was put on a sugar free diet also. I was not told what it was but was told that after the child is born i will go back to normal, well it did for nearly two years and then i start having symptoms and i was was later diagnose with diabetes, if i was told that all i had to do was change my eating habits and exercise then i MIGHT have avoided it for a while longer. I am not saying i blame anyone for this its just that some doctors tell u that u have something but if you don't ask what it is and a bunch of questions they will assume you know all about it. If there is ANY chance that you have gestational diabetes, you need to be under a phsician's supervision. Your long term health can be seriously impacted by the condition. |
