Can gestational diabetes have any effect on the baby later in life?

Can gestational diabetes have any effect on the baby later in life?

Absolutely, Yes!! It may not show up til baby is middle aged!

Gestational diabetes leads mother to being diagnosed sometime near Menopause with type 2. Type 2 is heritable!! It is a defect in our genes.

Mother and child should have screenings throughout their lives at annual physicals for glucose readings known as HgA1c. This will prevent a lot of bad things from happening!

I don't mean to scare anyone, but if someone had told me this some 40 years ago, I would not now be on the high meds and dancing attendance on the number of doctors I am! Endocrinologists, Podiatrists, Cardiologists, the list is endless and the appointments are interfering with my freedoms!!!

i had that with my first child he was born 9 weeks prem, was quite poorley when he was born,we had a 3 week stay in hospital. He is now 17 and a picture of health no physical or mental problems.

No.

No, but the mom is at greater risk of developing disbetes in the future.
