Does gestational diabetes effect your delivery? |
Does gestational diabetes effect your delivery? Many women with diabetes can deliver naturally. Sometimes it does. Babies get very large on account of the diabetes and you may need a C-Section to deliver without incidents. I had gestational diabetes with excellent control throughout my pregnancy. My A1c went from 9 at the start of pregnancy to under 5 at the end. However, even so my baby was delivered at 36 weeks and was 7 pounds 15 ounces! I shudder to think how much she would have weighed had I gone full term. Delivery was slightly complicated and she remained in the NICU for 5 days but is now 10 years old and a very healthy girl. I think size of the baby is the main possible delivery complication from gestational diabetes. |
