Does gestational diabetes effect your delivery?

Does gestational diabetes effect your delivery?

Many women with diabetes can deliver naturally.
Some of us will need c-sections.
The most important thing is that you and baby are both safe and healthy.

Sometimes it does. Babies get very large on account of the diabetes and you may need a C-Section to deliver without incidents.
Quite often these babies are so big that when tried to deliver normally can incurr damage to nerves of arm or fractures of clavicle.
But hope all goes well for you.

I had gestational diabetes with excellent control throughout my pregnancy. My A1c went from 9 at the start of pregnancy to under 5 at the end. However, even so my baby was delivered at 36 weeks and was 7 pounds 15 ounces! I shudder to think how much she would have weighed had I gone full term. Delivery was slightly complicated and she remained in the NICU for 5 days but is now 10 years old and a very healthy girl. I think size of the baby is the main possible delivery complication from gestational diabetes.
