I think my daughter has german measles...? |
shes 4 yrs old and has had her MMR. I took her to the docs the other day with a rash, but he said its a virus. Now its red raw and exervwhere except her face, calves, hands and feet. it doesnt itch, she doesnt have a temperature. because 1 doc said its a virus, other docs at the surgery wont second guess him and wont see her for fear of being sued if the original diagnosis was wrong! iv looked at pics of rubella, chicken pox, measles etc on the internet, and it does look just like the rubella pics. has anyone had a child with rubella, and do you know what to look for? I had it when i was my daughters age, but thats 20 yrs ago now and I was the only one in the family who ever had anything other than chicken pox! no one in my family lives local to see, and cant remember what rubella looks like. http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/art... PWNED! If your doctors are refusing to see her that is pretty horendous! I would look at signing up to another surgery! Rubella infection may begin with 1 or 2 days of mild fever (99鈥?00掳 Fahrenheit, or 37.2鈥?7.8掳 Celsius) and swollen, tender lymph nodes, usually in the back of the neck or behind the ears. A rash then appears that begins on the face and spreads downward. As it spreads down the body, it usually clears on the face. This rash is often the first sign of illness that a parent notices. It's not German measles until she breaks out in tiny swastikas Kids usually have few of the symptoms associated with rubella. About the rash - did it start on her face and work its way downward? Yes or no? The rash that begins on the face is typical of rubella. When it spreads down, the face clears up. It isn't always itchy. Check her lymph nodes behind her ears and at the back of her neck. Are they swollen or tender? Yes or no? The rash lasts 1 to 3 days and kids recover in about one week. The spots can be red or dark pink and be spotty or join together and appear as red patches of skin. Has she had the rash for longer than 3 days, yes or no? As the rash clears up, the skin dries and can peel or flake off. The nodes can stay swollen and/or tender for an additional week. If she had her MMR, then the chances of the viral infection being rubella is negligible. In terms of diagnosis, a study carried out before MMR immunisation began demonstrated that rubella cannot be diagnosed clinically! The rash is so non-specific that it was shown that of every 100 cases of rubella diagnosed clinically only about 10% actually proved to be German measles when serology was checked. This means that in fact the only way to diagnose the condition is by blood test. |
