Can german measles make me infertile?I'm already 21 years old.?

I've read that only childhood measles infection can contribute to being infertile. How true is it?

It does not affect the fertility of men at all. The problems it can cause are to pregnant women only as it can badly damage the foetus.

Men need to worry more about mumps. Mumps can make men sterile.

You should have been vaccinated for German Measles as well as a lot of other "childhood" diseases. If you live in the US, you can't even go to school without having the vaccinations. If you had all the vaccinations you should have had, you shouldn't have any of the diseases and therefore no worrys about any aftereffects.

Rubella is most serious because of its ability to produce defects in a developing fetus if the mother is infected during early pregnancy. Congenital rubella syndrome occurs in 25% or more of infants born to women who acquired rubella during the first trimester of pregnancy. Defects are rare if the infection occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy. One or more defects may occur in an infected fetus and include deafness, cataracts, microcephaly, mental retardation, congenital heart defects, and other problems. A miscarriage or stillbirth may occur.
Orchitis, referring to painful inflammation of the testicle. Males past puberty who develop mumps have a 15 to 20 percent risk of orchitis. Known complications of mumps include:
* Infection of other organ systems
* Sterility in men (this is quite rare, and mostly occurs in older men)
* Mild forms of meningitis (rare, 40% of cases occur without parotid swelling)
* Encephalitis (very rare, rarely fatal)
* Profound (91 dB or more) but rare sensorineural hearing loss, uni- or bilateral

German measles can only make a man infertile if orchitis occurs as a complication. This is very rare. It is more common after mumps.Childhood measles does not lead to infertility.
