Has anyone had either measles or rubella (German Measles)? |
How long did the rash last? I had measles as a child. It's a very serious illness, can make you very ill. It can also lead to all sorts of complications like septicaemia, and can damage nerve endings in the ear leading to deafness. the rash is very obvious; mostly around the trunk. If you think you have it, you need to see a doctor, now. Rubella is a milder illness; again with the rash and maybe some cold symptoms; no danger in this one normally, but if you are pregnant or close to anyone who is pregnant, also see a doctor. Rubella can be dangerous to developing tissue, ie the unborn fetus. rubella lasts about 5-7 days. Measles can last up to 3 weeks, and you amy feel unwell for several weeks afterwards. there is no treatment as such once you are already infected, but your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to prevent any knock-on onfections. Please see the webpages for more details and images on Measles (Rubeola) and German measles (Rubella). |
