Genital Herpes ?

can gential herpes be passed without the partner having an outbreak ? will there ever be a cure for herpes ? what causes outbreaks to come back again ? how can it be prevented from having an outbreak come back a lot ?

yes, it can be pass by asymptomatic viral shedding. During the first 6 months of infection, shedding can occur during 20% to 40% of days; with longer-term infection, shedding may occur during 5% to 20% of days.

Cure...I hope not ;) I love my herpes support groups!!! (www.charlotteh.com)

foods you eat can cause more outbreaks... read this link- http://www.herpes-coldsores.com/diet_and...

I also use "Herplex" to reduce my outbreaks. Its cheep, natural and sold over the counter at Wal-mart (red box next to the chapsticks in the pharmacy) but most of all, it helps with outbreaks. I've heard that the perscriptions work good too, but without insurace, they are VERY expensive.

good luck! hope that helps!

Yes, they can be passed without the partner having an active outbreak. I didn't know that until I saw the Valtrex commercial and started reading about it (out of curiousity, don't have it).

Viruses are very hard to find cures for.

It depends alot on your immune system and stress levels. It lies dormant in your body until there is a flare up.

Medications such as Valtrex can make the frequency less occurring but not cure it.

Yes it can - there is a phase called 'shedding' when symptoms may not be visible but it is still communicable. I doubt if there will ever be a cure as it is a virus - anti-viral drugs help shorten the duration of outbreaks. It is possible that a vaccine may be developed in time. The virus remains dormant in your central nervous system and can flare up from time to time though some infected people will only ever suffer an initial attack and some may never have an attack at all while still being a carrier. Some people are just, sadly, prone to frequent outbreaks. Make sure you keep your immune system healthy - eat well, take a vitamin supplement, always use a barrier method of contraception.

Yes your partner can still pass the virus to you even when not in a break-out. Many people are infected in just that way. The outbreaks come back again because it is a virus that lives in your body and is never gone. Outbreaks can occur from illness and stress. There are new medications on the market that can help keep you from having breakouts for extended periods of time such as Valtrex. Talk to your doctor about all of your treatment options..
