Can Herpes (hsv-1) cause genital herpes (Hsv-2)?

I GOT HERPES THE VIRUS HSV-1 AND I'M SCARE TO CATCH GENITAL HERPES. MY GIRLFRIEND DOESN'T HAVE HERPES BUT NOW SINCE I KISS HER I THINK SHE MIGHT CATCH HERPES (HSV-1) TOO. SHE HAS NO SYMPTONS ON HER LIPS YET AND SHE PREFORM ORAL SEX TO ME. ANYBODY KNOWS IF I CONTRATED GENITAL HERPES ALREADY?

Cold sores are typically caused by herpes simplex virus 1, while genital herpes is typically caused by herpes simplex virus 2. I say "typically" because herpes simplex virus 1 & 2 can cause cold sores and herpes simplex virus 1 & 2 can cause genital herpes.

If you kiss your girlfriend she can definetly contract herpes from you (cold sores). Kissing is the most common way of transmitted cold sores. If she DID contract them from you and then was to give you oral sex, YOU can develop genital herpes. You would then have cold sores and genital herpes caused by herpes simplex virus 1 (it wouldn't "evolve" into type 2).

I have personally had genital herpes for 6 years now. I have herpes simplex virus 1 though (as genital herpes not cold sores). I have NEVER had a cold sore in my life, but I have had several genital herpes outbreaks.

HSV-1 more often causes cold sores, while HSV-2 more often causes genital sores. HSV-1 causes about 30% of primary genital herpes infections. http://www.positivesingles.com... Report It

One virus can't turn into the other. But someone can have an HSV-1 virus affecting the genital area. Say if you perform oral sex on your girlfriend she could get the HSV-1 virus (what you have) infection on her genitals. But it would not "mutate" into HSV-2 because it's on her genitals.

You have hsv-1 orally. So, you have hsv-1. Since you already have hsv-1 you have antibodies to hsv-1, so you would need exposure in very very high quantities in order to get it again somewhere else on your body.

Your girlfriend could catch hsv-1 from you. If she does, avoid contact with an open sore otherwise don't worry about it it is not going to spread below.

HSV-1 cannot 'turn' into hsv-2, they are two different viruses that share about 50% DNA. HSV-1 is 'usually' oral and hsv-2 is 'usually' genital but either can be caught in either location. Most people never have classic symptoms that they recognize as herpes, the only way to know your status for sure is to make sure any time you are getting an 'std screen' to ask for the herpes igg test.

To answer your question in short, HSV1 can outbreak in genital area if you perform oral to your gf (in your case, you have it) and if your gf is infected oral and genital, and she can give you back in your genital area cause by HSV1. Both HSV1 and HSV2 can outbreak both areas but depending on which virus is causes. Moreover, if you touch the sore and touch other parts of the body, for example, you have a lesion or sore on your lip caused by HSV1 and touch it and then didn't wash your hands and touch your eyes, then you can self reinfected to your eyes and can lead to blindness. To make sure whether you have HSV1 or 2 or both if you happen to have herpes in both areas, get blood or swab test! Good Luck!
