Genital Herpes test results contradiction?

About 6 months ago, i was diagnosed with genital herpes. I have only ever had sex with one guy. My swab test came back as positive, but wen he was tested via a blood test it came back negative. How can i have genital herpes and him not if i have only ever had sex with him?

I had symptoms, but my then boyfriend didn't and still doesn't. To this day he blames me for it. I am on Valtrex to relieve the symptoms.

Unfortunately, this contradiction can happen...Let me explain. genital herpes can be caused by one of two viruses herpes type 1 and type 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2). The swab is the better of the two tests because it looks for the virus itself. The blood test looks for antibodies to the virus. It's possible that your genital herpes is caused by HSV-1 and your doctor did the bloos test for HSV-2 (or vice versa). You could have caught HSV-1 from your BF if he gets cold sores and gives you oral sex, or he could have genital herpes (from a previous relationship) and never have had symptoms.

Call your doctor and ask him or her if the blood test was for HSV-1, HSV-2 or both and if the swab showed HSV-1, HSV-2 or if they didn't determine which.

The other possible explanation is a lab error. Sometimes HSV can look like other viruses in the lab. If you get a herpes outbreak on your genitals, have it tested again and you can be sure.

If the blood test came back negative you don't have it.
Check with your Doc on that.

And your boyfriend can be a carrier without having outbreaks.

some people can carry the herpes virus without even knowing they have it. does he get cold sores? he can transfer them to your genitals if he does. sometimes it can take a while for the herpes virus to show symptoms. if you have symptoms or an outbreak again then get tested a swab test is better than a blood test and will have more accurate results.
my boyfriend didn't even know he had it and i ended up getting it but later on he ended up having a genital outbreak and he usually gets cold sores so i think he transfered them to my genitals.

He will show up negative because he is not having an outbreak now, he already gave it to you and it takes about 7 days to get it. Sad thing is, it has no cure, it's a VIRUS and Viruses cannot be cured, they hibernate till the stress level goes up and then he will have an outbreak of herpes then and that's when he needs to be tested. No outbreak, it will probably not show. OR!!!!!! This is sad but............ is it possible your Mother had it and never said anything? I don't know how that happens but I know in Nursing classes it was said that if the Mom was in labor during an outbreak it was best to have a Cesarean birth to be on the safe side.

Same situation here with me ...honest! I had one outbreak two months after i met my bf (june 2007) and he tested negative.... i felt like shiiit. We are still together and he hasnt had an outbreak. I havent had a second one and hope i dont! But im not that scared because everyone says the first is the worst and they becaome less and less painful. I was told by a nurse that men dont get it as easily as women do. I hope this helps...adn he should get tested in about two months. You said you've only had one partner...but try to think back if you had any foreplay in the past...if not, then your guy most likely got it from another girl in his past. He can still have the virus. I can be he has not had an out break.

There is nothing I hate more then when people say that viruses can not be cured or even prevented. I don't mean to offend that person that was trying answer your question but saying that is being narrow minded. Then that must means the common cold can not be cure because it is a virus. The virus can not survive in a oxygenated area. People use dmso on cold sores and effect areas and it goes away in days.

I went to the doctor took the test it came out positive. I did research on different things to take. I didn't panic because I didn't let people influence me that it can't be cured. It has been 2 years and No doctors can find it in my system. I have been going to the doctor every month. I took the blood test and the and the swab test. I am still negative. I had a baby vaginally and I am still negative. The virus nor cancer can not live in a highly oxygenated area. IT'S A FACT. Do some research on the virus. If people believed in everything the doctors and others say, do you know how many cancer victims would be dead from giving up.
