Genital herpes questions?

I have recently learned that I have genital herpes - I have only gotten 1 outbreak a year for the last 2 years or so. Is this infection only contagious during and right after an outbreak, or is it contagious all the time? Second question - since it is genital;, is it transmittable to others by any means other than sexual means, i.e : intercourse or oral? Is it ok to kiss someone without having to worry about transmitting it to them?

After having herpes for sometime now, and properly educating myself. I know the following. Herpes is spead through skin to skin contact at the site of your outbreak. You are contagious when you have an outbreak and during periods of asymptomatic shedding ( which mean you are contagious but have no signs to tell you so). It is transmittable from oral to gential and vice versa. ie if you have it in your gentials and someone perform oral sex on you, they could contract it orally and spread it to others or to you orally

The best person to answer this question is your doctor....

i believe sum1 can get it through oral also. and i also believe that it is only contagious right after and before an outbreak

It's only contagous before and after an outbreak, but any other time you're fine.

Your herpes is contagious at all times, although it is much easier to spread during an outbreak. Even though physical signs may be lacking, you still have the virus. Kissing someone will not spread it, however, someone giving you oral can transmit it that way. Condoms can help prevent spreading the disease! Good luck1
