If I have HSV 2, genital herpes, can I give my partner genital herpes by performing oral sex?

Since the type of herpes I have is HSV 2, genital herpes, is it safe for me to give my partner oral sex, since HSV 2 is genital? I've never had any outbreaks or anything, and I didn't think it could be spread from my mouth to his penis since the type I have is genital. Please answer only if you know what your talking about. Thanks!

It all depends on where you got herpes from. The herpes virus usually stays where it was planted at. So, if you got herpes from GIVING oral, then it will stay in your mouth.

I've got herpes too and I get sores both in my mouth and genital sores. I got it from giving oral to one of my old girlfriends AND having sex with her, so I infected both areas of my body.

Even though you have no outbreaks, the virus "sheds" for a few days per year. This means that the virus is on the surface of the skin, but there aren't any sores. The problem is, we never know when we're shedding we don't know if we're infectious or not.

So it would all depend on how you got it... if it was from vaginal intercourse, oral would pretty safe. But if you've done both oral and vaginal intercourse with the person you got it from, you could be infected in both areas.

the answer is no !

YES IT CAN be spread from mouth to penis or the other way around. if u are taking meds there will be less of a risk of passing it on. u can still pass it on even if u don't have outbreaks. i have genital herpes i'm suure i got it from my bf who had a cold sore at the time he gave me oral sex.
