Why not? Knowledge is always better than ignorance. It is surely easier to cope with a probability than a certainty i.e. with the idea that you might get it than when you have actually got it.

Yes I would in one instant, my mum has a really horrid brain disease and I want to know if I had it (even though the chances are slim) unfortunately in her case there is no test for her illness as for other diseases I wouldn't bother.

No, if I'm going to get like cancer or something I'd rather not know... and just being prone to doesn't mean you'll definately get it, just that you might, and I'd hate to live life walking on eggshells worrying all the time.

That's a tough question. Take Huntington's Disease for example. HD is a horrific neurological disease that usually does not present itself until a sufferer is about 40. By this time, they have probably already had children, and possibly passed the disease along to them (if a parent has HD, a child has a 50/50 chance of having it, as well). So, if you found out that one of your parents have Huntington's, would you have the test to find out if you had it also? Say you were in your 20s. Would you want to find out that you only had maybe 20 years to live? You could do all of the "before-I-die" things that everyone says that they would do, or you could be oblivious and probably become extremely paranoid after the age of 40, thinking that every stumble, headache, etc. is Huntington's disease coming for you.
An interesting fact is that Nancy Wexler, who has led the fight to understand and cure HD, has not been tested for it, although her mother died of the disease. I don't know what I would do if I were in this position; it is much to horrifying to think about.

no i would not have the test, my dad and aunt have Huntington's decease, if it came back positive then i would be waiting for it to happen, I'm not going to have children and I'm in my late 30's, maybe in the future i will have the test but until then just get on with my life, whatever will be will be.
