I'm 36, just diagnosed with Rectal Cancer (Adenocarcinoma)? |
My mom posted a few questions on here and I wanted to give you all some of the "facts" related to my diagnosis and hopefully it will help someone else. I started out with bloody stools about a year ago that came and went, I assumed I had hemorrhoids so never thought anything of it. Later my stools began to change and then I felt "pressure" to my rectum that became increasingly worse so I insisted that my family doctor refer me to a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy which revealed a large (11cm) tumor in my rectum. It was confirmed by biopsy to be carcinoma. I am now starting chemo/radiation for 5 weeks and then will have surgery to remove the affected area and get the tumor staged. My story is this: please get checked out if you have bloody stools, a change in bowel habits or "feel" anything out of the ordinary. My cancer was probably caused by a genetic marker and I will now have genetic testing done to confirm but you are never too young for colon or rectal cancers. I am 51 and i am having some of the symptoms you mentioned so you have helped me decide it's time to se a doc.Best of luck to you and thank you! Hi sweetie, so sorry to hear about you diagnosis. My mum was diagnosed with colon cancer but unfortunately she had secondaries in the liver. As you she thought it was hemorrhoids so she did not think anything of it until she started getting abdominal pains and pressure from the rectum. She do had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with the tumor but when the doctors investigated further she had metastasis in the liver. She was told that if she only had the colon cancer she would have had a much better chance of survival but with the metastasis she was terminal. She fought tremendously but in the end the cancer took over. Sadly she passed away on May 27th 2006 at the age of 60. I pray every day for a cure for all cancers and sweetie you shall be in my prayers. I am sure you will fight the disease and I wish you all the best.God bless you.
