What's this patient's problem?

A 3 yr old female enters the pediatrician's office with a cough, wheezing and difficulty breathing. Additionally, the child has recently suffered frequent bouts of diarrhea and bulky, oily, and foul-smelling stool. The child appears to be displaying poor growth based on past examination. Medical records reveal the child has had frequent respiratory tract infections. The doctor immediately orders a sweat test and genetic testing. what's wrong with this patient?

Cystic fibrosis, which usually affects both the lungs and pancreas. This would explain both the respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms. The sweat test is to detect the excess Cl- that is characteristic of this genetic disorder (hence the genetic testing).

Cystic fibrosis........

A simple fever with genetically non-growing problems??

she is haveing a heat atack

Cystic fibrosis is it. That explains the respiratory and GI symptoms along with poor growth. In the old days (have been a nurse for 30+ years) parents were told to lick their babies to see if they tasted salty (at home sweat test). Modern science has developed different testing methods used today. Another bit of good news is that children with CF have a much longer life expectancy than they did even just a few years ago.
