Creating a healthy start from beginning? (Replacing genes to fix genetic disorders)?

this is a question for a debate. yes this a futuristic idea but i wanted to get opionons from people all over. we have the actual debate in my bio class tomarrow.

Today, doctors can screen the genetic makeup of developing human enbryos to test for genetic illnesses. If doctors also have the ability to correct those genetic diseases by replacing genes, shouldn't parents have the responsibility to give their childern the best possible start in life?

i think she means like, if they have a genetic disorder which could cause things such as huntingtons disease or mental retardation. Scientists know how that replacing the genes at young ages will correct these, but they dont know how to get the correct part of the dna into the correct place without screwing something else up. i think that parents should have this choice and if there is going to be a problem with their child (as said before) then having gene therapy at a young age (possibly even before birth) would be a good thing. This would eliminate problems for the kids later in life

You mean make Mozart 7 ft tall so he can play basketball. Cure Albert Einstein's small brain. Make baby Adolf Hitler a baby genius. The best possible start might be love and caring parents.
