My 11 yr old daughter is short 10-12 of her permanent teeth. can this be a genetic disorder?

at her orthodontist appt. yesterday, the dentist asked me if she had ever been genetically tested, due to her severe shortage of permanent teeth to replace the baby teeth she has now. she added that such a severe shortage of permanent teeth can be a symtom of several genetic disorders. has anyone heard of any situation like this before? i am out of my element and at a loss, and helpless....and worried for my daughter.

I'm not a doctor, but personally I didn't get my wisdom teeth taken out (because they didn't show up!) until I was 24...while all my friends had them out at 14...and I'm perfectly healthy.

Always get a second opinion...it's worth it, I'd have so many fillings I didn't need, un necessary surgery and teeth pulled if it weren't for second opinions. I hate to say it but quackery abounds in the dental profession (as in any where you put a lot of trust).

Good luck!

no... no... She is just a bit slower than other children in her age group. Maybe she has a weird case of Marfan Syndrome?... no probably not, but I just scored myself 2 points!!

It would be genetic if someone in your family has it to.

HELLO AMY,
THERE ARE CERTAIN GENETIC DISODERS IN WHICH PERMANENT ADULT TEETH NEVER DEVELOP. HAVE A PHYSICIAN EVALUATE HER.

no, im pretty sure its because shes from kentucky or someplace like that
