phobias, phobia, -phobia, genetic, disorder, disease The real answer to your question is that there is no evidence that can prove whether phobias are genetic or learned. There are many theorist that are trying to prove either one but there is not enough concrete evidence to prove any findings. I recommend you to read the book Emotional intelligence by Goleman. It explains how ones emotional mind work. He points out that while the intellectual mind is in charge of many rational decisions, the emotional mind its in charge of its own leaving one with the struggle of trying to rationally solve the conflicts caused by the emotional mind. Phobias are part of the emotional mind no the intellectual mind therefore in order to overcome a phobia you would have to understand your emotional mind. Which, by the way, it is harder to understand that the intellectual mind. I would say yes. They are wired in our brains. We do not learn them. We cannot get rid of them. Everyone has 1 or more.
