What do I do if i have self-diagnosed Generalized Anxiety Disorder - GAD ? |
I've been doing a LOT of research over the past weeks, and I've diagnosed myself with generalized anxiety disorder. Now that you have awareness of what your condition is---it's time to explore alternatives to help, like relaxation techniques, meditation, breathing exercises. Find ways to relax your mind. Practice makes perfect! You can do it!! research a course of treatment for yourself - biofeedback or meditation and take action. Why don't you want to see a doctor? It's your best bet. http://www.adaa.org How bad is it? Is it tolerable and not disrupting your everyday life? If it is disrupting, you do need to see a physician or a therapist. There are reasons you are having anxiety. Well, you can't treat your self with medication without talking to the doctor. Some places have suggestions as to how to deal with the anxiety on your own. They tell you how to talk yourself down and how to deal with it on your own. That may work for some people. Some people (like me) can not deal with it without medicine. You can try to do it on your own first but, if not, you will either have to suffer or go to the doctor. Hope this helps! Sorry , but talking to a doctor is the best thing to do to help you. Sometimes reading too much about something can trick your mind into believing you suffer from the affliction. well if you dont wanna talk to a doctor then you can look up treatment. Im sure you have come across some things in your research that will help. Talking to a doctor is the best way though. Just sometimes not worth all that money. As long as you got your own diagnosis right then just keep up the research! Go see a therapist at your city or town. It Can develope into full-blown Anxiety Attacks if you don`t handle this very early in life.It could easily disrupt your life and career. I know. -S TALK TO A DOCTOR You can find counseling without seeing a doctor. If you are a student; see your school counselor. If you are employed, it is possible that your workplace has an employee assistance program, look into that. Or open the phone book and call United Way. Lots of options. its not as easy as you think to diagnose anxiety because it starts with depression. So something has triggered it or you can even inherit it from a parent. If you have any kind of anxiety attacks such as pressure in chest or arms ,kind of like your having a heart attack. Then see your family doctor and he can give you some light meds.If its a light anxiety disorder then st john wart or other vitamins can control it. Check your local library for books on GAD. You could also check with local colleges, hospitals, or fitness centers to see if they offer any courses or classes. There may also be some support groups in your area. Or continue digging further on the Web. These places may offer ideas for you to cope with GAD without having to take medications or may at least lead you in the right direction. Good luck, I know anxiety can be tough to deal with. I wish you the best. There are some wonderful medications that help with this kind of disorder. You ruled out your best option. See a doctor and try meds. They make all the difference if you are correctly diagnosed. Next, no way should you be diagnosing yourself. There may be more going on than you can objectively see. Are you a hypochondriac? That is another disorder in itself. Have you just started menopause? Is there a recent traumatic event you are dealing with? Anxiety can also be a symptom of another, possibly more serious, illness. An internist would be your best bet. Talking to a social worker or councilor would also help when you are ready to do so. Look for free groups like AA that might address your issue. Whatever you decide, reach out to someone who can help and do it soon. Waiting might put your health at risk. Good luck. I hope you take a step to reach out. You are worth it! go to this website: www.ilovemeinc.com. it's new, it was put out for women but if you read it and do what it says it will work for everyone. give it a try. it is free. The next step after all that research, would be to get to a doctor for a professional diagnosis, treatment, possibly referrals. You must first decide if you want to change it or if you are fine with it as it is. |
