I have generalized anxiety disorder and had a question? |
I've been on meds for my problem for a few yrs and it has really helped me. For the best week, I have been really worried again. I don't know what I'm worrying about is something real, or not. I finally decided to make an appt with my internist. I would like some opinions from other people. Thank you. You took a good step by making that new appointment with your doctor.....If you've been on the same medicine for years it may be time for a change......either a different type of medicine or just a different dosage or strength of your present meds. Your internest may also refer you for some counselling to help you learn some ways to prevent worry. therapy - people don't get it because drugs are easier - but if you want to fix the problem - you need help coping with it. First of all I am very happy to hear that you have been getting good results from your medication. One VERY important thing is that you communicate your current feelings with your doctor. Sometimes medication dosages or the medications themselves have to be changed. Let your doctor know the specifics of what changes you have noticed. depending on your age, general health, physical activities and hormonal changes your meds may need to be changed. Are you experiencing crippling anxiety that seems to come out of nowhere? If you are, you may have a panic disorder. I would discuss my symptoms with my doctor. He or she may need to increase the dosage of your medication. Therapy may help also, but anxiety can also be a biological problem. Ask about having your thyroid checked. Sometimes our bodies can overproduce adrenaline resulting in unwanted anxiety. Definitely go on with seeing your Dr. but there is one alternative I know from personal experience can help you tremendously in a short period of time. It is a very weird looking thing called EFT which is an accupressure type technique you can do on yourself. You can see how it is done on YouTube. It doesn't look like it can work, but I'm living proof that it really can, along with thousands of others who have gotten relief. You can download free instructions from the website, or I would be happy to walk you through how to do it. I also have a brand new yahoo group called FDAAgroup (Fearless a Drugfree Approach to Anxiety). |
