I have OCD and Generalized anxiety disorder and I have a problem....read below.?

The other night something said if you do a certain thing you will die of an asthma attack...I did it. I been having numerous panic attacks and worrying that I am gonna die because I can hardly breathe and have chest pain when I have them...is this bogus? Is this just associated with OCD and GAD? Should I worry or just relax. Please only answers with people who are experienced in the subject matter. Thanks.

It sounds like part of the anxiety disorder. Have you seen a professional? Are you taking any medication? You really should see a professional. There are medications which won't make you feel goofy, yet will relieve the anxiety. Medication has come a long way in just the last ten years. There's no reason to suffer if you don't have to. With medication, you might not have to.

I really do sympathize. I'm a retired nurse and helped treat people with panic attacks and other problems. I never got the full impact until I went through a bad experience and had anxiety/panic attacks myself. It was horrible! I felt terrified and didn't know what to do, yet I was safe in my own bed. What a conflict! This began after I almost died of pneumonia. It went on for several months after I'd recovered. Something in my brain was shorting out, telling my adrenal glands to prepare to run, that something terrible was about to happen. Logically, I knew it wasn't true, but it sure felt real.

Get help. Go see your doctor. If your doctor isn't up on medication for this problem, ask to see a counselor or psychiatrist who can prescribe for you. Often people in mental health have a better understanding of what medicine works for this. Good luck. I know where you're at and it's no fun.

You'll get through it. Just hang in there. It takes a while. Report It

Dont worry, the fact you have OCD and GAD means that your fears are going to be irrational...there's nothing you can "do" to die of an asthma attack. When you start panicking just sit down, breathe deep and relax, and try talk to someone.
