Can someone help me ? i have generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)? (basically a lot of anxiety.)? what do i do?.

i know many people are anxious a lot, but i get it pretty bad.
what are some ways of how i can control it?
im always nervous and can never seem to be calm.
i always care about what others are thinking about me & im self conscience. what should i do to calm myself down & relax a little besides yoga?! thanksss so muchhh

also anything besides medication?

STOP You鈥檙e thinking too much especially negatively.
Never worry about what people think 鈥?if someone ever criticizes you make sure it is contractive criticism so that you will learn from it. If it s not contractive then its bull **** and YOU should never worry about it.

The anxiety you feel is your brains way of going into defensive
mode. So your mind/conscious 鈥︹€?is trying to protect you.. from what you may ask well that鈥檚 down to the way you think and have responded to life鈥檚 experiences even if they are good for you, you go in to defensive.

I will give you a site to try out http://www.tapping.com/

And will advice you to look up the letters NLP Neuro Linguistics programming (It was co-created by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder). I guarantee you will walk through the world as a more powerful being.

P.S Exercise is a god send make sure you work out and get out of your comfort zone.

I would highly suggest exercise. I am on medication but if you do not want to take prescriptions, I have also heard that Vitamin B complex is helpful with anxiety.

The best thing to do is fight through it and DO the things that you want to do despite the anxiety.

It feels SO good when you fight through that and accomplish what you want to. Even if it's something as simple as going to the supermarket. I have AvPD, and just calling someone on the phone is a HUGE challenge for me. But when I do it, I feel accomplished. It's nice to have that feeling, even if it's about something simple!

It's also good to try and remember the fact that everyone else is NOT better than you. I don't know if this is just an avpd sort of thing, but I always feel like I'M the one who has to impress everyone because they're so much better. When you're around people, just remember that they're trying to look cool just like you are.

Exercising is also a really good idea. It gets your energy and endorphins up and makes you feel like you can do more. Eating well, too. Both REALLY improve your mood! :]

i would suggest something that is physical AND that gets you mind off of stressing stuff--acting does it well for me (which I know is odd, but it works for me.) Maybe for you it's acting, or some sort of sport, painting...lots of stuff. Best of luck!

I have anxiety disorder that at one time spread to panic disorder. So I do understand your problem. If the anxiety is interfering with your life, then I recommend counseling and possibly medicine to help.

Otherwise, the best answer is to use relaxation techniques in combination with meditation. A good counselor can give you some effective tapes to guide you in relaxation.

But if you don't want to do that, relaxation involves three things:
1. Find the right spot. It needs to be a place where family won't bother you and external noise in minimum. Go to this spot every day.
2. In your spot, first be in a position that you can comfortably maintain for 30-40 minutes. Once in position begin to control your breathing.

It is important that you start with a deep breath. This will become a signal to your body to become relaxed. Once your have trained the body, in an anxious situation, you will be able to take a deep breath and relax.

The important thing is to breath slow and deeply. As you may have noticed, when we are anxious, our breathing becomes shall and fast. So take a slow, deep breath in, hold the breath for a second and then slowly let it out. Keep on doing this until you begin to become very relaxed. Controlling your breathing should slow your heartrate also.

3. Once you have relaxed through your breathing, continue to breath properly as in 2. But now concentrate on your body. Just mentally check each part of your body for relaxation. Are your feet relaxed? Is your left leg relaxed?, etc.Go all the way to the top of the head.

Then you will be aware of parts of your body that still need to be relaxed. Mentally speak to that part of your body. If its your right leg, as an example, you might say, "My right leg is getting warm and heavy". Keep repeating this or other words to relax that part until you are satisfied that it is relaxed. Similarly go through the other identified parts of your body until they are all relaxed.

God's blessings,

Pastor John

Worrying is a bad habit, you need to overcome it like any other bad habit. Try to modify the factors under your control, that is the only thing you can do. From http://mshn.org/worry.html
