I sense a breakdown arising; I have generalized anxiety disorder... what should I do?

This year hasn't been going so well and I am sensing one of my breakdowns. I do not have them often unless I am stressed out. The last breakdown that I had, I started crying uncontrollably at my job and I practically ran out of the restaurant without telling anyone for two hrs. I was practically hiding. I thought that it was strange behavior. I do not want to go through that again. So what should I do? Is there a way to bring up this breakdown in a safe enviroment like my house so that I can get it over with?

Anxiety and depression are usually intertwined. One way to get over it is to exercise at a gym and keep yourself occupied so you don`t dwell on what is making you anxious.
Exercise creates natural endorphins which will make you feel better.

Are you describing a panic attack? If so, there are special medications to help in those situations (Xanax can soothe a panic attack in moments).

I have a panic disorder and it was originally brought on by a ton of stress in my life. I have gotten it under control with zoloft and a handy supply of benzo's that I don't actually use...but just having them in my purse seems to keep me calm.

Anyway, I don't know if that is actually what you are describing because you don't mention fear or extreme anxiety...but the fact that you call it a break down and that you run away leads me to believe that is what you mean.

If it is a panic attack and you aren't on any medication to treat your anxiety...this is a good time to consider starting one up. There is no telling when a panic attack is going to hit. I have had it happen at work and all I could do was run inside and wait it out. If you are in a car, you need to pull over immediately and let it run it's course. If you are out and about and have no safe way to get home, run to the bathroom and wait it out in a stall. It's an adrenaline rush. Your body has signaled that you are in danger (stress and a variety of triggers can cause this) and it releases the adrenaline to tell you to "Fight or Flight". It's a terrifying feeling if you can't find a direct cause for the fear...so usually flight is the only option.

If that is what you are feeling, I seriously recommend talking to your doctor about an anti-anxiety medication (if you are already on one, you might need a different one or to raise your prescription dose)...and talk to your doctor about the possibility of getting a small and low dose prescription for a Benzo (such as Xanax, Ativan and a variety of others). You only want to use them when you absolutely need them because you can become addicted. Like I said, I don't actually use mine and haven't used them in almost a year. They just sit in my purse "just in case".

call your doctor,, asap and get in to see Simone at your mental health place you probably need your meds adjusted

I heard something really nice one time: everybody is entitled some time to grieve. It's human! Women, children, even animals, men (men cry like babies). You should think about lightening your workload too. You're going to school, right? Either take less classes next time, or don't have a job while going to school. Don't think about guys, either (unless it's me). Plus, you just got a ticket. I'm always ready to rip someone's head off when I get one.

Another saying I recently heard: Life is so simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

I think about **** too much just like you, but I've come to grips just by accepting things as they are. I know it sounds pretty corny, but when you realize all the problems people have and accept yours as not being that bad, it makes every moment of life enjoyable. When I've finally admitted to myself things that I did not want to (counter-intuitive), I HATED IT! Then, after a little bit of time, my admitted problems became my friends- and eventually something not even worth thinking about. I have accepted who I am, who you are, who we are as people, as a species. I love it. You'll find out just like I did, probably the same way. And once you do, you can live life to its fullest without symptoms from this so-called 'disorder'.

ADD ON: Don't take meds, live natural and don't be weak
