What Medication Is Most Prescribed For Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

I'm Considering Taking Medication For My GAD, But Would Rather Take Something That Is Commonly Prescribed. Anyone Know?

Gerard took the words right out of my mouth..DO NOT TAKE XANAX.
This medicine should only be used for short time periods and not on a regular basis. If you fear getting on a plane or something like that then yes but definitely do NOT start takin Xanax on a regular basis. And if your doctor says it's the best thing out there and it's safe then tell him to give me a call. All of these doctors who prescribe that chit don't know their *** from a hole in the ground. The problem is the half life is way too short and you build up a tolerance very quickly requiring higher doses or more frequent doses and then when it wears off you feel even worse than before you took it. Ativan has a longer 1/2 life and Klonopin much longer. Paxil has shown to be effective for GAD even though it's primarily an anti-depressant. I would start on that at 20mg/day and go up to 30mg if needed. Also, a low dose of Klonopin 0.5mg but only as needed. It's much better and safer to be on Paxil than any benzo. But for Christ's sake do not let him talk you into Xanax!

SSRI type medications are often prescribed. Drugs in this class include Paxil and Zoloft. Talk to your doctor about what would work best for you..

xanex

A drug in the class of Benzodiazapines such as xanax, klonopin, ativan, .........i have heard that doctors prescribe Paxil frequently, but in my experience it did not work. I take xanax when needed, and klonopin at bed time.

an SSRI and some diazepam will help for a while, plus some psychological therapy, don't take xanax, a short cting benzo, similar o lorazepam, it will work, but make he problem worse, as the anxiety will return very quickly

SSRIs, and plenty of studies show them to be overprescribed and capable of causing suicide.

SSRIs are the most common group of drugs....they are antidepressants, google it....and search for SSRI and generalised anexiety disorder

vistoril

Paxil, Wellbutrin, Cymbalta

Elavil is a highly prescribed med, but it loses its effictives after a while and you need higher doses. Paxil and Zoloft hurt my stomach, so i couldnt take them, i am thinking of trying xanax, we'll see.
