How can i tread myself of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)? |
How can i tread myself of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)? I agree with the previous poster- if you have never been in treatment for GAD before or if you have never technically been diagnosed, it probably isnt the best idea to treat yourself, however if you are sure that is what the problem is and you've already been to therapy- you can try to do the techniques learned in therapy on your own-- for example, cognitive-behavioral therapy is a very successful treatment for GAD and other anxiety disorders- try to make a list of all things and situations that make you uncomfortable and list them from 0-10 (0 no anxiety 10-the most anxiety) and start slowly by doing exposing yourself to those things lower on the list and eventually work your way up- the cognitive part is important to put to use during these exposures-- I would at the very least go to your local bookstore and see what they have in the self-help section- some workbooks can guide you in the right direction, but nothing is better than having a well qualified psychologist whom you see reguarly and who can give you tips, tools, techniques, guidance and support By going to a qualified doctor. You can research the condition but self-treatment hardly ever works. And if you have not been properly diagnosed with this condition, then self-treating for it can be harmful to your emotional wellbeing. |
