Explain anxiety disorder? Do I have it?

I am very confused. I have been told I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). For those of you who have this what does it feel like? This is the way I feel: I have had very bad symptoms (which are probably a full blown anxiety attack) only about 4 times which I went to the emergency room because I wasnt sure what was going on. After that and in between its kind of like most of the time I have: chest pains, shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat. I feel like I have those symptoms all day long almost everyday if not every other day. Like as I type I have those symptoms and I am sitting here surfing the web at work with nothing to do I am not worried about anything. But all I can I feel is my heart beating so fast like it wants to come out of my chest I mean is it normal to feel this way for hours and days at a time? Is that an actual anxiety attack? Could it be medical? I have gone to a cardiologist in the past months and testing came back normal????

If you're not feeling worried or scared but your heart rate is high etc., it could be something physical. Hyperthyroidism comes to mind, and it probably isn't something a cardiologist would think of. Try an endocrinologist. Could be anemia, too, or a reaction to too much caffeine or decongestants.
