Is this common with anxiety disorder.....?

Ok, I was diagnosed by a doctor with panic disorder and generalized anxity disorder, I'm 17 years old. At first, I started getting panic attacks I thought I was having a heart attack...I even went to the hospital and thought i was dying, but with councelling I was able to get over that fear and was anxiety free for 2 months.

Until now....I know this sounds crazy, but I have a FEAR of , well...going crazy! It all started when I watched a movie about a guy with scizophrenia... that scared me so much, i kept thinking, what if that happened to me? But then my councellor told me, if u think u are crazy, chances are ur not crazy...because crazy people dont kno they are crazy. That made me feel better.
However, I still worry "what if" I get a mental disorder, or already have one..I worry what if I have bipolar, or borderline personality disorder, im constantly WORRYING that something might be wrong with me! Is this typical of anxiety?

Yes, you diagnosed yourself correctly - your worry is typical anxiety. This is exactly what goes through your head.

You get a 'what if' idea, and it runs loops through your mind.

Forget about the other disorders. You would've had them by now and you don't. And what your counsellor told you is true. People who are severely disturbed are not aware of it. So get that thought that you're going crazy out of your mind.

Talk to your counsellor again and work on your anxiety. You can be anxiety-free again. You were for 2 months. That is a very positive sign.

anxiety is a disorder...and it needs to be kept under control. Maybe you need to talk to your doctor on putting you on something or if you are on something maybe putting you on something that is a little stronger. This is your anxiety kicking in again, which will cause your mind to be WAY over active and worry about small little things. Your not crazy but you will drive yourself crazy worrying about being crazy. Go and talk to your doctor.

are you not on any medication for this? lol. Yes i would say this is very normal. I have depression and axiety and before i went on my medication i had a terrible time falling to sleep at night for the fear of not waking up. I would just sit there awake, freaking out about dying. Deep down i knew i wouldn't, but still it scares the crap out of me. The other night i almost had a panic attack about it, i don't remember what brought it on, but its horendous and terrible. I would talk to your therpaist and doctor about it, i'm sure there is something that they can do to help you.

You sound exactly like me a year ago. And I can assure you that you are not crazy. I too have panic/anxiety disorder and are taking medication for it which helps keeping it under controll. One way of getting rid of the fear that you might go crazy, is to challenge that negative thought and make fun of it. Humour helps a lot. Adress your fear- say out loud- that you not afraid of it and believe it. If you feel a panic attack comming on, instead of trying to stop it- which makes it worse cause you trying to run away from it- look it in the eye and challenge it- imagine the fear as small and inferior and you will have the victory. Remember also to stay away from caffeine and energy drinks and get lots of excersize to burn the excess adrenaline in your bloodstream.

So now your anxiety is over the possibility of mental imbalance. This sounds like some level of insecurity that the card game of life is just about to deal you a 'rotten hand'.

Anxiety is actually normal if you have unresolved issues relating to your emotions, relationships, study, work, money, diet, housing or physical fitness etc. Life is like a pie graph where each slice can affect the overall taste of the pie.

Your 'fight or flight' system is working too hard for your survival. That movie put a 'splinter' in your 'mind'. You want peace of mind that much that your looking out for things that may be wrong. It can become an unhealthy obsession. The mind affects the body through glands and nerve messages.

Email me if you want someone to talk to more completely.

it sure is. Keep going to counseling and it'll help

Your reaction is pefectly normal, welcome to the absurd world of panic disorder. You have already received some excellent advice, I won't bother to repeat it.

I just want to encourage you to recognize that you are not alone, millions of people suffer from this problem, and it can be controlled with medication, therapy, or a combination of both approaches. Find a qualified doctor to assist you, and if you do not get some results, get a new doctor.
