Acid Reflux, which is better for you? Zantac or Prilosec?

I have had Gastroesophageal reflux disease for about 15 years and have taken zantac and prilosec both with good results. I am wondering which is less damaging to your liver and other organs. I do drink beer often and I am a smoker. The hernia isn't bad enough to have surgery yet and until it is I am going to just address the symptoms. Thanks.

This is not just heartburn. I would hope that if you answer you have some background in the medical field and are familiar with GERD.

If you have acid reflux on a regular basis you should see a doctor. Acid reflux can be a sign of more trouble that stomach problems. If ignored it could lead to cancer of your throat. But I think Prilosec is better because it's longer lasting, but you have to take it for two or three days before it takes effect.

stop smoking now, it will add years to your life....then drink lots of water for the rest of your life.

Well, I take Omeprazole capsules, and they work well, but not if I smoke. That will just irritate your oesophagus. It doesn't damage you liver, but the alcohol might. Between tablets I occasionally take Gaviscon which is also very good.

Prilosec made me sick when I drank some alcohol. I have found that pepcid complete works really well is cheaper then those 2

zantac is the best !!!!!!!!!!!!! try cutting back on coffee and cakes - donuts etc

i used to get it bad from that stuff - its not from smoking - its from all the acid in the carbs -- you need at least one litre of water a day and a couple of pieces of fruit with all that other stuff - you should get way better after that -
