Gastroenteritis...?

the other night i woke up with diarrhea and then i became very dehydrated, so i had to go to the emergency room and be hooked up to an IV.

They did some tests and told me I had gastroenteritis.. I am feeling okay and I haven't had anymore diarrhea and I am keeping food down.. I just have had this really bad pain in my stomach, it feels like someone punched me in the stomach or something is in there hitting my insides..

what could this be?

Usually they are right and it is what they diagnose you with. I had this as well and was sent home. Sometimes it can be more but I'm pretty sure if the ER told you this is the diagnosis you should be fine. Have they given you any thing? If so take it. If you don't feel well in about a week or so I would contact a gastroenterologist
--- Yes pain is normal. You have to realize your stomach is inflamed.. If your hand was swollen it hurts right? Well your tummy is having some trouble you may not see it but it's there. Make sure to drink lots of fluids and just relax. You should be fine.

It's exactly what they told you it was. Gastroenteritis is a legitimate medical diagnosis.

Other people refer to it as the stomach flu, although that's a misnomer as it has nothing to do with influenza (a respiratory disease).
