Stomach flu virus - when does it die?

How long after Viral Gastroenteritis leaves the body does it die?
I need to know when I need to stop disinfecting the house.

I mean, after the virus is out of the body, i.e. spit from a cough gets on someone's hand and then they touch a door handle. When would the germs in the spit die?

There is no certain time frame. Usually, you are considered non-contagious when the diarrhea has stopped (or the vomiting without diarrhea).
