How can I get rid of a fever?

My son has gastroenteritis. We've been to the doctor, but his temp wasn't high enough to treat. I've been giving him Tylenol because it's been getting up to 101+. But the Tylenol isn't bringing it down to normal. Is there a way I can get him to sweat out the fever any faster?

Just took my daughter to the ER today. They said to alternate Children's Tylenol with Children't Motrin every 3 hours. Different ingredients and each particular dose is still 6 hous apart. She was 103.9 at 5:00 am and has been back to normal for a couple of hours. Good luck.

try alternating motrin with tylenol every two hours, but you should probably consult your doctor.

It is actually not good to sweat out the fever.

It is good to give him a tylonal and Ibprophen mix. Give him one of each, or two of one depending on his age.

If his temp gets too high, take washclothes and dampen them in cold water and put them on his legs, arms, and forehead.

Then change them when they get warm, whitch will be every couple min. if he is really hot.

You are looking to cool down the fever. An ice pack on his legs is good too.

We did this when my sis had a 104 temp. This is what the nurse recomended. Hope everything works out!

Fever is the body's way of fighting infection, If your son is still playing and eating and drinking at 101F, you might want to let the fever do it's job. But you might want to call his doctor back and tell him, her how high his fever is getting to see if he would like to revisit

well you actually gotta "sweat it out". keep the air off, put put some ice on his forehead. make sure he drinks TONS of water, so much that he has to pee every second practically, it helps flush out his system. also ,some multi-vitamins and vitamin C would help a lot, if he wont take them ,crush them up in some heathly orange juice, but dont tell him, or else he wont drink it. also, dont give him any sugar. give him fruits and veggies. and when i say no sugar, i mean things like gadarade, cookies, sugary ceral. nothing like that.

i hope he gets better!!

I would not try to sweat it out of him. You can try putting him in the tub in warm water-not too hot, nor too cold and this should help bring his fever down. If he is able to hold anything on his stomach, you can alternate the tylenol with motrin, provided he is not allergic to aspirin. In other words, dose him with tylenol, next dose give him motrin, next dose tylenol, next dose motrin, etc.

I would advise calling the doctor and telling them that, but sometimes that's just the way it goes.
Luke warm baths will lower temperatures. That's what my mom did for me. With a rolled up towel for a pillow (and to keep my face above water) she would fill the tub just enough to cover me.
I loved it too. It felt so good when I was sick.
Don't "sweat" it out. He may over heat and have seizures.

alternating motrin with tylenol is one option.
Others are
-Expose the child-undress, do not cover in clothes or blankets
-Use luke warm( slightly warm water) and tepid sponge- take a little towel dump it in the luke warm water and sponge the child( never use cold water, it increases the temperature by constricting the blood vessels into the muscle instead of exposing them thus loosing the heat of the high fever)

I'M SURE YOUR CHILD IS WELL NOW..BUT IF YOUR DR DNT THINK A TEMP OF 101(FEVER) SHOULD BE TREATED YOU NEED TO BE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER DR.
