Question for those who have experience with ulcers...?

I have a doctor's appointment on Monday afternoon, but I was wanting to get some feedback from the Answers community in the meantime. For the past 4 months, I have had episodic pain in my stomach and bouts of heartburn and indigestion. It usually seems to act up after I have taken medicine or when my stomach is too empty. Tums don't really do much for me. Two weeks ago, my doc put me on Prilosec because she thought it might just be gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach). The Prilosec stopped the heartburn, but not the pain. Yesterday my stomach ached from 1:00pm until about 8:00pm. Food didn't help and I couldn't take anymore medicine since I had taken Prilosec that morning. The only way I can describe the pain is that it was a dull ache, almost like I had done a thousand sit ups. Does this sound like an ulcer to you? I have no blood in my stool. I've had nausea, but not severe. THANK YOU!

Could be an ulcer, Prilosec would take care of the excess acid, but not the ulceration. Also, not to be too graphic, but re: no blood in the stool, are you sure? Bear in mind that when you have a bleeding STOMACH ulcer, the blood appears black when eliminated. This is because it has passed through the intestinal tract and been partially digested, and it CAN be hard to detect. If the blood were red, it would point more to an intestinal disorder like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (Colitis, Ileitis). But, good you're going to the doc. You'll know soon enough. Hope you feel better soon.

Don't try to guess what might be wrong,I tried years ago and it was completely different from what the other people thought it was.Let your Dr.do all the tests that's needed to find exactly what it is,I know you are anxious but all that does is make you sick with worry,God would never give you more than you can handle!Good luck and God bless you!

it sounds like you have GORD: Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD).
Heartburn is the main symptom. It is a burning feeling which rises from the upper abdomen or lower chest up towards the neck. (It is confusing as it has nothing to do with the heart!)
Other common symptoms include: pain in the upper abdomen and chest, feeling sick, an acid taste in the mouth, bloating, belching, and a burning pain when you swallow hot drinks. Like heartburn, these symptoms tend to come and go, and tend to be worse after a meal.
