Need answer!! I have H Pylori, can i kiss my boyfriend if he has, of had it too?

I found out today i tested positive for H Pylori. My boyfriend either had, or still has it. His symptoms are much more severe than mine, but my symptoms have been ongoing for much longer. I'm starting my medication tomorrow morning, and will be on it for ten days. During that time, or after, could we both get it again by kissing? He's been on medicine for it, but his ulcer is back and possibly gastric cancer now. We don't even know if it's contagious to where we could have given it to each other. So, does anyone have an educated answer as to whether it's ok to kiss or not? While i'm on the medicine, or after, seeing as he's still sick, (even though he has been treated for it) and we don't want to get it again after my medication is done? And could one of us have given it to the other? Please answer!!!!

Hi there,
Since H. Pylori is a bacterial infection, you're going to want to respond and react in much the same way as if it were a throat infection, or an STD...in which case, you'll want to obstain from kissing and sharing utensils. Make sure you both are on antibiotics, and that you both complete your dosage and test negative before resuming intimate contact.

Extra pointers...
1. Do not share utensils with each other, or anyone else.

2. Do not share drinks.

3. Wash your hands every few hours, as H. Pylori and E.Coli and other bacteria can be picked up from surfaces.

4. Avoid nail-biting if at all possible.

5. Consider taking a daily multivitamin AND a daily acidophilus pill or similar probiotic supplement to increase intestinal strength and overall immunity.

Good luck!!

H Pylori is bacteria in the gut. Most people have it. What is a Helicobacter Pylori?

Helicobacter pylori, (pronounced HELI-co-back-ter pie-Lorrie) also called H. pylori is a spiral shaped bacterium. It lives in the stomach and duodenum. The duodenum is the section of intestine just below stomach.

Helicobacter pylori has a unique way of adapting in the harsh environment of the stomach. It protects itself by covering itself with the mucus of the stomach. Once it is covered with mucus, it is able to fight the stomach acid that does reach it with an enzyme it possesses called urease.

Because of its spiral shape and the way it moves, H. pylori can penetrate the protective lining of the stomach. When it penetrates the stomach, excess acid can irritate the stomach and duodenum (pronounced Doo-o-DEE-num) eventually causing an ulcer.

When an ulcer has healed, it is likely to come back within a year. When H. pylori is completely eliminated from the digestive tract, the chances that the ulcer will return are greatly reduced.

How common is H. pylori?

H. pylori is very common. About 2/3 of the world's adult population are infected with it. Almost everyone who has a duodenal ulcer has H. pylori, but not everyone that has H. pylori develops an ulcer.

How do people become infected with H. pylori?

H. pylori can be spread through contaminated food or water.

What illnesses besides ulcers does H. pylori cause?

H. pylori can cause chronic and severe inflammation of the stomach, wasting away of the stomach's mucous layer. People with H. pylori are morel likely to develop gastric cancer than people who are not affected with H. pylori.

What can you do to prevent H. pylori infection?

The source of H. pylori is not yet known. However, it is always wise for persons to wash hands thoroughly, to eat food that has been properly prepared, and to drink water from a safe, clean source. These methods may help you from getting a H. pylori infection.

IT IS NOT AN STD!
