Gastric Bypass question..............?

I'm 6'0 and a little over 300 pounds. I got this big I guess from medications I used to take becayse I was always built much thinner than i've been. I used to be able to work out and everything, but i'm having trouble. I'm still young, but I just can't do what I did because of my weight. I guess my Q is am I a candidate from Gastric Bypass and/or what does it take to be one. Thanks.

A BMI over 35 with one co-morbidity. Or a BMI over 40 without the co-mobility.
Do you have hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea?
Have you tried other diets and what were the results. These are the things that you will need to go to your doctor with. Good luck.

Don't! My sister in law and a fellow co-worker did the band and the bypass...and it is a pain...they can't eat anything normal...like a burger..pizza, or good bread...or even healthy food that is firm like apples. I used the recordings that everyone is talking about, and it did it for me. After 4 days of listening 15 minutes a day...and I made it through Thanksgiving dinner only eating half on my plate...and half of ONE slice of pie!!! I ordered my CDs online from the company Independent Achievement Productions and they worked for me...and now for my other..non-bypass coworkers.

Gastric Bypass Surgery (GBS) should be used as a last resort. It is very tough and you must change your habits for the rest of your life. First you should talk to your doctor and ask about diet and exercise. You will need to follow a strict diet and exercise plan even if you have GBS, so you may as well learn how you should be living.

I had the surgery 3 months ago, and it is very hard. For Thanksgiving I had two bites of turkey, two bites of beef, three bites of mashed potatoes, a bite of cranberry and a bite of stuffing. Nothing else, and I could not drink any fluids during dinner or for an hour after dinner. That was a big meal for me.

GBS is a huge decision, it involves psychological changes as well as nutritional changes. It is major surgery and death can be a factor. Do not make your decision lightly.

Someone else already mentioned what the requirements are for the surgery, that most surgeons and insurance companies require to just begin the process. BMI can be calculated online by filling in your weight and height on many sites. Some insurances and doctors use different illnesses for theit co-morbidities, so be sure to check with them first. You will have to follow a doctor monitored diet, see a nutritionist and a psychologist, and join a support group, probably, too.

You need to take control of your body now, though. If you let your obesity continue along the same lines you have more problems that difficulty exercising. Please take care of your problem now so that you can lead a great life rather than a life filled with debilitating illnesses and chronic illnesses. Good luck.
