Gastric bypass or lapband surgery???

has anyone had the gastric bypass or lapband surgery? have they worked, how much weight have you lost, how log has it taken, any side effects and do you wish u never had it done? how much did it cost? please help i can deal with dieting and exercise anymore, it dosent work and im willing to risk my life, im only 24 and dont want to deal with weight problems for the rest of my life..

I am 28 and had gastric bypass on October 10. As of December 6, I have already lost 62 lbs. I weiged about 307 before surgery and stand about 5'9 tall. Personally, I have not had many side effects. Mostly just feel tired a lot. It comes along with a very major lifestyle change. Going out to dinner is pretty much not an option even after 2 months. I can eat about 4 bits of food and then I am done. It is just not worth paying the money. The first few weeks were very bad and painful. I wondered how I could have put myself through that. Now, I feel like the surgery was a blessing and I thank God for everyday that I am here. The total cost of surgery without insurance is about 25,000 bucks. Luckily my insurance covered everything but about 350 dollars. I can't complain about that. Just remember. Gastric Bypass really is not the easy way out. Anyone that things it is the "Easy Way" is totally wrong and needs some real education about what this surgery involves. It is a major surgery with some major pain and major side effects if the aftercare is not followed to the T. Good luck!

With both procedures you're still able to eat large quantities of "liquid" food (or food that's easily chewed to liquid) like ice cream, sugar cereal, milk, mashed potatoes, rice, gravy, soda, chocolate milk, candy & chocolate, cheese, milkshakes, rum, beer & alcohol.

If you don't have discipline now, it doesn't automatically come with surgery. In fact, you might find it hard to eat "good" food like meat, chicken, vegetables and whole grains. They don't chew to liquid as easily.

It's still easy to overeat after surgery. This is why Al Roker and Carnie Wilson both started regaining weight after their surgeries.

If you decide to still have surgery, ask the doctor a list of patients so you can talk to them. Ask what it's like, how they felt, how they eat now, what they can't eat now and how much they've lost.
