Gastric Bypass + Gum?

I'm looking for anyone who has had gastric bypass and accidently swallowed a piece of gum. I did so this morning and called my doc. and he said that since it's been 2 years I shouldn't worry unless I start to feel uncomfortable. What's uncomfortable? lol

I had that same question before my operation.. and the doctor told me that it is a "myth" that swallowing a regular size gum will block your stomach.... so, don't worry... BTW, the explanation given to me was that the flexibility of the gum will help get it down the pipes easily.

if it feels like your blowing a bubble in your stomach everytime you breathe in

I had a gastric bypass....you should know what uncomfortable is (unless you've been very, very good :)

...he probably means feeling like you are blocked (food isn't going down) or going to throw up. Excessive salivation is what I experienced, stomach discomfort before I threw up. That feeling that you've eaten too much.

I'm no doctor, but everything that goes in, passes through, and then comes out. Chewing gum passes through the body in about 24 hours, or if you have a healthier colon, 12 hours. It just doesn't get digested because our body can't break down anything in it except the sugar and flavors. The gum passes whole and looks about the same when it comes out as it did when you swallowed it. Gum does NOT stay in your stomach for seven years. That is a myth, so you shouldn't worry, but try not to swallow gum, it's just kind of gross.

I had mine in 2003, five month into recovery I swallowed gum. I had stomach cramps for a couple of hours. Now it doesn't bother me one bit
