Gastric bypass? please explain.......? |
has anyone experienced or had gastric bypass? what where the before and after results? would you recommend it? how do you qualify besides the obvious overweight? I had the gastric bypass (RNY) done in 2001, and I started at 500 lbs. Unfortunately, the place I had it done (BTC, is now called Barix) did the same surgery on everyone, and didn't take my super-size into consideration, so they didn't bypass enough intestine to make me lose enough weight, and in addition, my stoma was never small (the opening from the pouch to the intestine), so I've never been able to get full since my surgery. I lost 160 lbs in the first six months because of the intestinal bypass and sheer willpower (watching what I ate, etc) but have gained 50 lbs. of that back, and am still super-obese at 390 lbs. I have a lot of health problems too - B12 and iron anemia, fibromyalgia and CFS, etc. i am 24 and i had it done in march of last year. i was 490lbs i am now 295. my goal is 189. but i wouldn't change that. my high blood chestrole sleep ambia all that gone. never felt better. the thing is. stay on track. follow instruction Report It your intake is only 2 onces so u will get full very quickly. u will be on a very stick diet so. if u planing on eating right go for it. but if u planing on eating what u are eating now don't do it b/c u will be waisting your time. Report It but if i had to do it all over again i would b/c this is a new begining for me i am young and i time to live right. if u feel that this is what u want to do do it. do it for health and not looks Report It a small section of stomach tissue surrounding the esophogeal entrance is cut free and made into a new smaller stomach, this is hooked into the small intestine bypassing the large stomach sack entirely. i have never had it but people that i know who have look really good. if i wasn't scared to death of surgery i would consider it. Well, hi there, Ms.Blessed...hehehe. I believe that Here is a wonderful site for you to investigate. www.obesityhelp.com It helped me with lots of questions I had about all the different types of gastric bypasses. They even have a chatroom for people who are considering it, who have had it done or who are already scheduled for the operation. I have 150lbs of excess weight. I had wrestled with the decision to have the bypass for almost 3 years. Not sure what your beliefs are, but I prayed about it. For me, there were just too many "what ifs." There are people who gain the weight back because, although they can only eat tiny bits at a time, they eat all through the day. It is not a cure-all for obesity. You have to be 100% sure that you want to put yourself through that. Consider what your weight is now, your other health problems and if u would be able to follow the strick diet afterwards. There are many complications that can happen. Just the fact that someone overweight enough to have to have the operation is a little scarey when it comes to surgery of any kind. I have started to lose weight on my own. I have lost almost 50 lbs since Jan 18 of this year.I guess I just made too many excuses before. Now I am a new grandma. I want to be able to play with him as he grows. Many people do very well with the surgery, I just don't think that it is for me because I don't think I could stick to the post-surgery program. After all, not being able to rescrict myself with food is what got me this way to begin with...You have to have the head fixed first before the body is fixed or it will fail. Having said all that, I'll tell u what the people in the chatroom told me. If u aren't 100% sure about this and you aren't "excited" about the prospects of eating tiny bits of things and possibly never eating some foods ever again, then this surgery isn't for you. I could go on and on, but I think it would be best if u looked on the site I talked about above. The people in the chatroom were very supportive and kind to me. I also read a book about the subject...it doesn't mince words...many very bad things could happen during surgery, but if u r having chronic health problems that can only be helped through the surgery, Then u will have to weigh the costs....Go to the site..talk to the people in chat. Learn more about the different kinds of gastric bypass. Take care Gastric Bypass Surgery/gastrectomy/lapband (all types of weight loss surgery) is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. |
