Gastric bypass or no?

What is the diff between gastric bypass and lap-band? I'm scared but my weight is outta control.I have cholest. problems and now sugar. I hate all veggies and meats, I'm afraid to even think about this step because I don't know how I would even change the way I eat. I don't really eat alot-I guess I eat the wrong foods. What r the risks? I have 2 kids to think about also. but my life sux now anyway. I just got new H.M.O. ins. and it prob wouldn't help I bet. How do I find out what it will cover? money is VERY thin here.

I can't believe how people can be so rude. If you are skinny you cannot possibly imagine what it's like to be heavy. It just gets to the point where can't even move enough to even get exercise.

With gastric bypass surgery, most of the stomach is removed and can't be put back.

Banding just puts an elastic band around part of your stomach so you will feel full sooner. It can be reversed with minor surgery.

Look on the back of your HMO card and call the number. They can easily tell you if it would be covered. You should know, though, that there is a six-month process you have to go through in order to qualify. You have to stick to a diet for a while and show that you can control your eating to some degree. Also there is counseling to see if you are capable of dealing with the operation.

Hello There I just Had Lap Band Surgery Last year and lost 60 pounds it is just as effective as Gastrc Bypass but not as dangerous you hear about people dying all the time from that surgery from Sepsis which is intestinal fluid draing into your blood stream from them rerouteing the intestines please consider the lap band before gastric bypass and Richmond Surgical Group is the best place to have do your surgery Dr. Mathew Brengman was the first to do that type of surgery and he did mine I am totally satisfied but this has to be your choice ultimately I would pray and ask the Lord what to do and I am sure you will do the right thing my prayers are with you take care.

You need to read your booklet that they gave you when you signed up for the HMO. That will tell you what is and isn't covered. Both the stomach stapeling and the lap band are gastric bypass just different proceedures. The first thing you need to do is ask your doc for a recommendation to a dietician who can at least help you figure out nutritious meals and ways to learn to like more variety of foods. Without like more nutritious foods you will not survive after a bypass surgery. This is a rather serious operation and can have complications. See your doc first and get the help you need before asking about bypass surgery.

Gastric Bypass is the most radical weight loss surgery. They basically make your stomach into a little pouch and sew that section further down in your intestines. The outcome is that the patient won't be able to consume as much food because of the small stomach pouch, and the food that is eaten will not be fully absorbed as it doesn't pass through the entire digestive system.

Lap band is similar in that they make a small "pouch" out of your stomach, however it is done with a band around the stomach. This method is reversible. The Gastric Bypass is not.

In my opinion: this is not the way to lose weight. People who have weight loss surgery contend with many things. Hair loss, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, vomiting and "dumping syndrome." Dumping syndrome is when your body doesn't digest your food and just quickly "dumps" it i.e. explosive diarrhea.

You say your life "sux." Maybe their is a deeper issue that is making you fat. You should try some counseling instead of surgery and get to the bottom of it.

No surgery is good until you find the underlinning reason for your weight and also why you can't get yourself to eat healthy. If you have the stomcah bypass you will HAVE to eat healthy or you will be malnurished big time. your portions will be very tiny.

I had the surgery not for weight control but because of a car accidernt, I needed part of my stomach removed. It is NOT easy to eat such small amounts. I would recommend the lap band, which isn't forever.

Either way you will have to make life changes. Up your exercise, eat tiny amounts and change your relationship with food.

I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I鈥檓 180 and holding, after 1 year and 7 months. The problem is, even with the GB surgery you will still have to change the way you eat and follow a strict, healthy diet. If you do not, you will experience problems and regain any weight you have lost. Then you will be overweight AND missing part of your digestive system. And poorer....

Going by what I have heard from people who've had the surgery, it isn't really the easy way out. Wouldn't it be better to simply bite the bullet and change your eating without doing the risky surgery?
