I have a ganglion cyst and im getting it surgically removed will i have to wear a cast?

i know of other people who have had their ganglion cyst surgically removed and they had to wear a bulky dressing but a little after that they had to wear a cast?

Removal of ganglion cysts do not usually require a cast. You will only need a bandage until it heals. I had one on the inside of my knee that was 3 inches long, 2 inches wide and 3/4 inches deep. Day surgery and I only took medication for 2 days.
Surgeons take x-rays to determine whether or not the cyst is attached to a tendon so that might be a factor in someone needing a cast. Ask your doctor if you still have questions. Surgery makes most people a little nervous.

Maybe, you may want to ask the doctor about that.....But most people IF IT IS SMALL, will just wear a bulky dressing...but ask???

My ganglion cyst was on the inside of my right middle finger. A cosmetic surgeon removed it. I was given Valium pre-operatively, then Versed (a sedative) during the procedure. I wore a bulky dressing for two weeks. Some physicians prefer to use a split and a dressing to keep the affected finger immobile.

If your ganglionic cyst is on your wrist, the recovery time may be up to six weeks. You may indeed have to wear a splint on the wrist to allow the joint to heal.

Ganglionic cysts are also called "Bible cysts" because, long ago, one treatment for them was to hit them with a big heavy book, such as the Bible. This would rupture them. (Don't do this.)

I have not heard of anyone having to wear a cast after excision of a ganglionic cyst. Perhaps there were complications following the surgery? This is definitely a question for your surgeon.

No, it will have a dressing on it for awhile and stitches and maybe a splint.
