What does injecting cortisone do to a ganglion cyst?

i just had cortisone injected into a ganglion cyst on my left wrist - does it just help to dissipate it? it hurts like someone has shoved an ice cube underneath my skin, and it really swollen.. but slowly getting better now.. the ganglion is gone, but just not sure exactly what the cortisone did?

The cortisone is an antiinflamatory drug. It helps to relieve pain by reducing the swelling caused by the bodies inflamatory response. You do need to be careful after cortisone injections to avoid contact with infectious agents and avoid injury, as the bodies immune system and antiinflamatory responses will be impaired by the injection.

Cortisone is an anti-inflammatory medication. Your wrist was inflammed as a result of the ganglion cyst. The cortisone reduced the inflammation when it was injected on your wrist, which is why you feel better.

The lady above me is absolutely correct. Corticosteroids act to suppress the inflammatory response, a part of the immune system's response.
