Thanks to all who answered..so..is like rubbing/smacking not going to make it larger?

Hi there, I had one about 10 years ago. The doctor said, "just hit it with a big book". I thought he was joking. But I got to thinking about it and it made sense. It's just a big sack of fluid and if you pop it it'll go away. So, it wasn't easy, I hit it and nothing, harder, then harder. Finally I smacked the crap out of it and poof. It was gone instantly. It didn't hurt at all when I rubbed on it. It actually felt good. Ok, you can have the fluid drained but that's not removing the cyst. They have to go in surgically to remove it but that's not neccessary when you can just pop it. Both of these methods it might come back. Mine has a few times but I just re-pop it. The first time I popped it, it was gone for about 6 years.
It's caused by leaking fluid from a tendon or something like that. Now they can't repair that either without going in. I'd imagine the scar would be tiny and not even noticible. But if a scar worries you. SMACK it. I used the handle of a big screwdriver once. It worked. It hurts hitting it. When it pops, no pain.
Good luck!

I have had this. Sometimes they go on their own, but they just as likely will stay or grow larger. The surgery is simple with little or no scar or pain. Good luck.

I had one once, the old people use to call them Bible cyst. My doctor told me it was a calcium buildup and for me to rub it every time I thought about it and it would go away. Sure enough, I rubbed and rubbed for weeks and one day I was rubbing it without thinking and I realized that it was gone.

It may be a ganglion cyst, although when I've had them, they hurt when forming. Most likely it will go away on its own, as most ganglions do.

I had one on my wrist - the doctor said the old treatment was to hit it with a book. He said surgery had problems (pain and time off work) so I left it.

One day I fell over, and my hand bent back, causing it to pop. I felt it pop. It went away instantly with no pain.

It came back a few months later, but then went away on its own after a while.
