Is it possible to have a ganglia (ganglion) cyst on the lower back part of my head?

like, the bone behind my ear (but not really behind my ear)...more towards where my neck connects with the bone on the back of my head.
anyways...so this bump just appeared out of nowhere. my mom has had a ganglia cyst on her wrist for several years...and this bump on the back of my head seems exactly like that kind of bump.
i just noticed it a couple of days ago and i can push on it and make it go away for a second, but then it comes back a little more swollen. it doesn't really hurt. it feels like a bone. i dunno, weird eh?
just in case it matters (prolly doesn't, but whatever)...I'm a 21 year old female.
should i go to the doctor and get it checked out or what?
what else could it be

Yes. . .
It is possible. I am suffering from the fourth reaccurance of mine. I have had two attempts at removal by physicians in their offices and one at the ER. I understand they can return if 100% of its sac is not removed.

I also learned recently that if we wait until they are infected that 100% removal is more difficult.

I believe mine comes from exercise, like using the ab roller, etc.

This time I plan to try a couple of days of heat and massage to soften it and if that doesn't work seek antibiotic treatment before I attempt to have it surgically removed again.

I am many years older than you but I am very active and exercise quite a bit. I am certain that using the mat & ab roller causes my reaccurances.

If you have medical insurance I strongly recommend taking the time to have a doctor look at it while its small and not bothering you.

They can literally become a pain in the neck when they act up.

Good Luck!

K

They say that usually ganglion cysts are found on the hands and wrists. However, ganglia are found near joints and tendons, and there are certainly joints and tendons in your head and neck as well, so I suppose it is possible to have a ganglion there. If it feels like your mom's ganglion, it may be that it is a different kind of a cyst, like a sebaceous cyst. Lymph nodes are another common cause of lumps behind the ear. Take a look at the 1st source below about lumps and bumps. It is pretty reassuring. The 2nd source says that if it doesn't go away in several weeks, then get it checked out by a doctor. Good luck, and I hope it goes away soon.

perhaps its an enlarged occipital lymph node.

If it went away on its own it probably wasn't a ganglion cyst. See your doctor if it comes back. P.S. the salmon didn't make it go away, but it is good for you, so keep eating it.
