Ganglion Cyst in index finger joint? Treatments/ Options? |
I am a 31 year old. I noticed a few weeks ago a "pearl" like knot in the joint on my index finger ( at the palm of my hand) It was tender to touch & I was told it felt deep ( to the tendon). It has gotten larger, now is tender most of the time and will "lock" for a second until it gets in the right spot. I have an appt with an ortho doc, but wondering what I may expect to hear. I had one removed at the base of my middle finger just over 10 years ago. It wasn't a big deal at all - quick procedure, local anesthetic (they just had it draped so I couldn't watch darnit)...stitches out a week later and I was good to go! Definitely not a big deal whatsoever! had one on inside of right thumb section closest to palm.doc said invasive surgery ;open area, peel cyst away from tendon, scrap material away from tendon.50/50 chance of recurrence.option B was to do nothing and see if it went away.chose option B , went away in 3 years. old "cure" is to mechanically crush cyst.am told is painful with mixed results. I had a cyst on top of one of my knuckles that grew very large over a few days and was causing me so much pain that I went to the ER. They did a digital block (inject anesthetic into the nerve of the finger, causing it to be numb for a good 12 hours). They just cut it open and left it to drain. It healed fine and has not come back. Good luck! |
