Could a Ganglion cyst be a result of a wrist injury? |
Could a Ganglion cyst be a result of a wrist injury? They are not sure what causes a majority of ganglions...usually if someone injures their wrist then a ganglion pops up you remember it...but a lot of people injure their wrists and no ganglions, and people who dont use their wrist much at all have them pop up.Most experts feel its an out-pouching of the wrist joint capsule.,kind of like a mushroom. it sometimes just comes out of nowhere. if it doesnt hurt or bother you or limit your movement, you can leave it alone Most definately!! I had one in 4th grade because of gymnastics. I also know someone who fell off a bike on their wrist and got one. They are not dangerous just annoying. They usually are the result of a minor injury or trauma that you don't even remember doing. Like bumping your wrist on a table or door jam. If it becomes extremely bothersome or if it is your dominant hand they can remove it. I got mine because I use my wrists alot at work in repetitive tasks. It not true that they don't hurt. If it is left alone it can become quite large and cause pain on the nerve, to which it is attached, or because of the resultant pressure. The treatment is quite simple and easy. It consists of a five minute doctor's visit where the Dr., an Orthopedic Surgeon, inserts a syringe into the cyst and drains it of its fluid. The doctor will usually tell you to message the area to break down the walls of the cyst so that it will not fill up again, which is a possibility. I had quite a large one on my wrist last year and had it drained and, following doctor's orders, I messaged it ; it never came back. I think they are more hereditary. I may be wrong. |
