How can I kick a gambling addiction? |
It has already done major damage to my life. :( I don't know how you feel about 12 step programs, but someone very close and dear to me did Gambler's Annonymous and it REALLY helped him. At first he was skeptical, especially because they talked about a "higher power" and he's not the religious type and didnt want to join some cult - but he found an idea of a higher power just as a better life that is meant for him that he can have if he gives himself over to it and there were all types of people there. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I can tell you that he has not only stopped gambling but he has a better relationship with his family, is dating and working, is a more open and honest person and just generally happier. they have meetings that you could go to for this. Gambling addiction, like all other forms of addiction, usually cannot be handled alone, but need professional intervention. Consult Gambler's Anonymous. ask a friend to kick you when ever you have the urge to gamble . Stop! Sounds easy to say, but you have to stop. Get to the AA type meetings. Once addicted always addicted. Get away or remove the things that help cause you to gamble. If your friends are causing you to gamble, find new friends. If you work in a casino, find a new job. If it's Sunday football games, get a hobby and get away from the TV. Have your bank set up some direct bill payments and have your paycheck direct deposited. This way you won't have money in hand and bills will be payed. I know you can still get money but it will limit it. You have to get away from the gambling anyway you can. Best of luck to you. Bet all your money on a 50/50 bet and hope.. if you lose then at least you cant bet any more :) if you win then donate it to charity well, firstly, i think u need to develope a stern saving habit, i.e open a bank account and every little piece of money u get, u put it in there. if u dont have cash on u to gamble, i think u wouldnt gamble. Sit it out... go through withdrawal... scream every time you hear the words "Reno," "Vegas," "Laughlin," "Casino," and "Atlantic City." Don't give a damn who is around you. :-) |
