Where can i get help with gambling addiction?

hotnurse71..... its nice to see someone who understands what a problem it is to have an addiction.......and understands that it is an illness

Gambling is not an addiction or an illness. It stems from a lack of personal responsibility.

you're only doing it because you believe it gives you something

does it?

does it really?

ask yourself

If you are losing money with this addiction and you live near your place of addiction then join addicts anonymous...It is really sad to have no control over the desire to take that chance. I think that gambling is set up to make people addicts...Personally I'm addicted to a computer card game but I don't gamble....I came from a state that doesn't allow gambling..Hawaii. so there are two good reasons to go to hawaii now! in fact Las Vegas is called "little Hawaii" for that reason...Hawaiians do like to gamble... so If you can see your way into therapy and if not, GAA...then you may find the support you need...Heck I've lived in California now for years and don't even buy a lottery ticket...but maybe you can put away that money you know you will lose and take that vacation to Hawaii or???? Maybe its just a matter of having a bigger dream to work towards...

The first thing to do is to get your friend to admit they have a problem. If you can do that then getting help e.g. via Gamblers Anonymous will be a whole lot easier. Get them to visit the website and try the 20 questions. If you want to try a generic home study worksheet as well then I recommend the 2nd site.

Would seem to be your first port of call.

You have to reframe your outlook.
Instead of making the image of gambling exciting and images of winning big etc, think of it as negatively as possible and refuse those thoughts that you know won't get you anywhere, just broke.

You have to decide not to do something and then stick to it. If you find that urge overwhelming, take yourself away from the source, ie turn your pc off.

If you make the decision not to gamble and reframe those thoughts to ones that make it a turn-off it will get easier to do.

I for one have a rule I don't do any of those phone in things on tv.

Not just because they were rigged, but when you weigh up the chance v 拢1 it makes it ridiculous. For the same reasoning, I allow myself to play arcade games, but not fruit machines.

Here's an example:
I watched Ant n Dec today (bit former Noel Edmonds I thought) and the phonee can win the ads. Only they had time for just one person. That means you have xxxxxx people phoning in at 拢1 to register for next week and one person playing. You do the maths. Create thoughts like this.

Also if you *were* picked (1:xxxxxx), you could win a toilet roll.

It's all about making decisions and sticking to it. I've had to control a few temptations in the past, and you just have to go no and get away from them. Also address what you want and what it brings you and then tell it no. It is hard, but can be done.

I must stop washing my hands lol!

People can tell you what to do, only you can do it though.
Once you break it, never do it again. Don't create the excuse to restart.
