How do you fix the need to feel somthing & the need to convince yourself you exist.?

Us lemons, we **** **** up all the time on purpose. Because we constantly need to remind ourselves we're alive. Gambling's not your problem. It's this ****** up need to feel something. To convince yourself you exist. That's the problem. This quote is from the movie Two for The money regarding gambling but putting gambling aside I was wondering if anyone knows the name of this condition is and how to fix it. That is the need to feel somthing. The need to convince yourself that you exist.

Pathological gambling is an Impulse Control Disorder NOS, so I need to say that I disagree with the movie's ideological statement regarding it's origin first.
I think the term you are looking for however is what is referred to variously as "existential fear" or "angst". The classic psychiatric term that would most closely parallel this is what is known as "nihilistic delusions", a psychotic symptom which is a delusional fear of ceasing to exist, not a simple fear of death.
