Psychosis, Medication causing addictive behaviour? |
Hi, a friend of mine was diagnosed with Psychosis a couple of years ago. She has been on medication since consistently but now has a big problem with gambling and alcohol comsumption, which she never had a problem before she became unwell. I know her appetite has increased due to being a side effect of the medication, just worried about the gambling and drinking and if theres maybe a type of medication that doesnt cause these side effects. Wonder how many people are suffering a mental illness and other problems due to their medication and they and their families dont realise its not just them???? I don't think its the medication that's making her gamble and drink, I'd say she's unhappy. Geodon doesn't make you gain weight, she should ask her Dr. If she has moved on to taking alcohol and gambling on top of her medication, it's not her medication's fault, it's hers. She has to buckle down and pay attention to her therapist and use controlled substances correctly and under supervision. Otherwise she's going off a cliff, and it wouldn't do one bit of good by rationalizing it by blaming the meds. She's misusing them and ignoring the accompanying physiological advice that she should be getting. It in not the medicines. She is depressed, she is trying to drown out her problems. She needs to see a psychiatrist, they should be able to talk and help her. |
